How the GPA Calculator works

The GPA Calculator runs every course through the standard 4.0-scale formula: each letter grade’s GPA value is multiplied by its credit hours, then all of those are summed and divided by the total credits.

Add a Current GPA and Current Credits to blend prior terms in — useful when you’re partway through a degree and want to project your updated cumulative.

Formula

GPA = Σ(gpa × credits) / Σ(credits)

Where

gpa
numeric value for each letter grade (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, etc.)
credits
credit hours assigned to that course
Σ
sum across all courses you've entered

FAQ

Common questions

What scale does this use?
Standard 4.0 with +/- distinctions (A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, and so on down to F = 0.0). Click Grade Scale to customize values per letter, add new letters, or switch to an unweighted scale.
Do credit hours matter?
Yes — credits weight each course in the average. A 4-credit class affects your GPA more than a 1-credit class. If every class at your school is weighted equally, just enter 1 for each.
How do I calculate cumulative GPA?
Fill in the optional Current GPA + Current Credits fields. The calculator blends those with the courses you've entered to give you your overall cumulative.
Why is my result showing 0.00?
Make sure you've picked a letter grade AND entered credit hours for at least one row. Empty rows are skipped.
How do I handle honors or AP classes?
Click Grade Scale and bump up the GPA values for the letters you want weighted higher — for example, change honors A to 4.5 or AP A to 5.0.
Does the calculator save my data between visits?
No — everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent anywhere. You'll need to re-enter your courses each time.
